There will be bumps in the road, but learning how to change direction and roll with it is an invaluable skill. And each mistake is a chance to learn something new, so with each piece your skills will improve. 2. Prep work matters! Do. Not. Skimp. The prep work is arguably the most important part, without a solid base you cannot get a professional finish. Ask me how I know 🥲 3. Your products matter! The type of paint, primer and topcoat you use makes a difference. No, it does not need to be the last expensive or the trendiest, but it does need to be good quality to make sure you end up with a strong, durable piece. 4. Sometimes less is more. Not every piece needs to be a complete overhaul, sometimes it just takes some simple switches to make a huge difference! 5. Just because it’s free doesn’t mean you should flip it! I know, that’s a hard one 🫣 but especially when you are flipping for profit, some pieces need too much work to make it profitable. It will only cause more of a headache. Here are three reliable approaches that I use on every flip: 1. Bondo Glazing & Spot Putty: This product is particularly well-suited for addressing smaller dents, scratches, and dings. Unlike regular wood filler, Bondo Glazing & Spot Putty dries quickly—usually within 10 to 15 minutes—and doesn’t crack, making it ideal for minor touch-ups that require a smooth and seamless finish. Its fast-drying nature allows for quicker project completion, and its resilience ensures lasting repairs without the worry of future cracking or shrinking. 2 Kirkwood Epoxy: When dealing with more substantial damage, such as missing chunks or rebuilding corners and other significant sections, Kirkwood Epoxy is an excellent choice. This versatile material can be molded to fill in missing pieces and restore the structure of your furniture. Once cured, it forms a durable bond that can be sanded and painted to match the original finish. Its strength and adaptability make it a go-to solution for more complex repair jobs. 3. Bondo 2-Part Filler: This is my personal favorite due to its wide range of applications. Bondo 2-Part Filler can handle everything from filling hardware holes and dents to repairing large missing sections and filling in missing veneer. It dries rock hard, providing a robust and durable repair that can be sanded to the exact shape needed. We scored this Kent Coffey set for $20 when pickin We scored this Kent Coffey set for $20 when picking up another free dresser 👏🏼 I knew I needed it to be a quick flip, so I opted for paint (I know, I’m the worst 😂). Then once I started scuff sanding I decided to strip the top and go for some bare wood.. I’m a sucker for some wood grain 🫣 but turns out the top was veneer, had some damages and the edges were blown through… it’s possible to fix, but since the goal was a quick flip we made the decision to just paint the entire piece in @sherwinwilliams Tricorn Black. We cleaned up the original hardware and ✨ just like that, the piece was ready to list! We got this set for FREE from FB Marketplace and I We got this set for FREE from FB Marketplace and I had a vision from the start 👀 but then we realized it was not solid wood like the listing said and the nightstand had substantial water damage, so we tossed it and pushed through with just the dresser.. even though I try to avoid particle board whenever possible 🫣 I actually did not like how this piece was turning out most of the way through the process, but now I LOVE it! We painted it in SW Tricorn Black and made a custom red oak base.
